Hampshire Fire Service Visit
On Wednesday 5th September we had a very exciting visit from Hampshire Fire Service. The day consisted of an assembly whereby we learnt about fire safety and looked at the safety equipment worn by the fire fighters. In the afternoon we were able to go outside and try on some of the fire service safety clothing, use the hose to put out a pretend fire and sit inside the fire engine and learn about the vehicle and what happens when they are called out to a fire. It was a really excellent day and we learnt lots of important facts that we will remember.
Our topic this half term has been superheroes. We have been studing two texts; Superworm by Julia Donaldson and Supertato by Sue Hendra. Both of these books have an exciting and adventurous story line where the superhero comes to the rescue. We identified the qualities or super powers that superheroes have and shared with our friends who we recognise as a superhero in our lives. We have had great fun making our own superheroes using lolly sticks, card and paint. We even made pictures of ourselves as a superhero. Drama has also been an excellent tool to support our ideas which have then been used in our writing and Mrs Cotton has enjoyed reading all of our work.
Mr Mannion has been teaching us how to play rugby this half term and we have had great fun learning the key skills. We are now able to catch and throw the ball, score a try, move quickly in different directions, use the space on the field sensibly, pass to friends and play tactically. The games we have played have enabled us to develop these skills and work closely with our friends as a team. We always work really hard in these lessons and are often quite tired after because we play games for an hour. We have really enjoyed improving our skills each week and look forward to the next lesson.
